(Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. October 22, 2014) – The Muslim Council of Greater Hamilton (MCGH), a coalition of Hamilton area mosques and community organizations stand firm with all Canadians in categorically condemning the heinous killing of Hamilton’s own, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, and the attack on our Canadian Parliament buildings – the very symbol of democracy and freedom in our country.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and all others who were injured in the attack,” said Dr. Ali Taher Ghouse, President of the Muslim Council of Greater Hamilton. “We endorse the declaration today made by the National Council of Canadian Muslims, and stand firm by our fellow Canadians to uphold the safety and security of all Canadians and our institutions.”
“Muslims across Canada appreciate the ability to practice their faith in peace,” said Sayed Tora, Imam of the Hamilton Downtown Mosque. “This small group of criminals who ascribe to violent and radical ideologies are not part of Islam.”
Representatives and Imams of the MCGH will take part in placing a wreath in honour of Corporal Nathan Cirillo of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at the Lieutenant-Colonel John Weir Foote Armoury in Hamilton at 2:30pm Thursday. A short statement and prayer will be conducted.
In addition, all Hamilton area Imams will be focusing this Friday’s sermons on the horrific events that unfolded in Ottawa, and offer prayers for Hamiltonian, Corporal Nathan Cirillo, his family, and for the safety and security of all Canadians. Media are invited to attend.
